    Hi All
as the weather is warming up a bit my blueberry bush has errupted with buds and new leaf growth its look great..the thing i worried about is my redcurrent bush, it was planted last year and torwards the end of the year it had leaf buds on it that didn't open, now these are still on the bush now and they haven't opened, i thought it was dead, so i picked one off and it was green underneath and the same when i scratched off a bit of bark. anyone have any ideas what i can do with it so it doesn't look like a dead stick?
Also, does anyone have any info or advice about loganberries, i bought a little stalk last year and now its trailing about 10 feet long...
    Thanks
    Gill

Don't worry about the redcurrent, when the weather is a bit warmer the bush will open its leaves, when it feels the time is right.
The loganberry will fruit on the 10 foot trailing stalk. So it needs tying on to some kind of support to take the weight of the fruit. It will fruit about the end of July. During the coming growing season more growth appear. This will fruit next year. When the leaves drop in October cut out the stalk that fruited this year.

Hi Sam - I don't have answers to your questions I'm afraid, I'm a fruit newbie! but it seems like Les has it covered - I just wondered whether you're growing your blueberry in a pot? I've just ordered some but I seem to remember they like quite acidic soil and usually need to be grown in pots in special compost... and, if you do have yours in a pot, what size would you recommend? Any other top tips? and can I expect fruit this year?

    Hi Lesh,
thanks for the reply and the advice, you've put my mind at treat over the redcurrent, can't wait for them to fruit, i think i'm just too impatient. as for the loganberry, i have attached it to a wire high up on my wall and i'm hoping to trail it over the porch, i wil see how it goes, are they similar to blackberries or raspberries, i haven't a clue i only bought it because it was cheap

    Hi Claire
i think this is the 3rd year for my blueberry bush (i did have 2 but 1 of them died :-( ) Yes i am growing them in pots,(as i grow all the plants i have only patio garden so have no choice) and your right they do need eracacious (sp) compost mine are in a large pot, i would presume the larger the better. I did have fruit off mine year one, then more year 2, and have quite a few flowers on it already so far this year so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
my 7 year old daughter loves to go out in the morning and pick the fruit, blueberrys and strawberries up to now, but i'm hopeing to have the red and blackcurrents and loganberies too this year for us. mmmmmm.....

LOL, sorry I meant Gill not Sam! Thanks for the reply, that's great news about the fruit.
I was given a loganberry and I think they're most like blackberries, although I only had mine for a year so didn't get any fruit. Best of luck for a fruitful year! (sorry)

Ive planted my blueberry in the ground. You have to make sure not to getr lime anywhere near it as this will kill it or so ive been told.
