Asian supermarkets are best for getting them to eat, Elaine, if you have one handy - don't know if the seed-merchants' ones are cheaper?

I have some roasting garlic bought from supermarket that is sprouting at the bottom of my fridge and if I don't get a new cleaner soon it will be taking root!

I have grown before in veg. plot, but nursery cloves are much better bet.

Get them from any garden centre or Wilkinsons sell them cheap.
I planted some from the supermarket last year and they were great.
I wouldnt recommend it as Blackthorn says you are not sure they are virus free.
Whatever you decide get them in now as garlic actually like frost it helps form the cloves.

    Just hijacking the thread !

Do you need to peel the garlic cloves prior to planting out ?

I've heard conflicting theories, what do you reckon ?

I planted 2 rows, one of which i peeled the cloves before planting. So far , this row is doing better than the unpeeled row.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how they get on.

    I'll keep you informed.
