After giving my blackcurrants a severe pruning last year I had no fruit, I forked in plenty of pellated chicken manure and they made superb growth abeit a bit sappy they are now in bud and look very promising I reckon I need some fertilizer but not any thing as nitrate as chicken perhaps potash? for fruiting any suggestions please.

High potash is what you need for fruit Rosietu. I use stored bonfire ash to boost potash along with a bit of fish, blood and bone. I think tomato fertiliser is high in percentage of potash so you might give that a try when the fruit starts to develop.

Ah thanks Dave thought it may well be something along those lines, Have purchased the new jam pots already....Potash equals fruit, etc long time since I had a garden large enough with natural resources ie soot....bonfire ash etc..can see my Dad now dunking the brassicas in soot whilst transplanting them!
