can anyone tell me which pest might be eating my coriander seedlings?? I've managed to grow them outside from seed - they looked very healthy until one morning it appeared that something had 'grazed' their tops off!! I thought it would be a slug but couldn't find any culprit.

Probably is slug damage. Short-lived hardy herbs like coriander can be sown at intervals of 3 - 4 weeks from spring to autumn to give a continuous supply of foliage. So you can still sow some more. Might be an idea to protect the seedlings with a cloche until they are big enough not to be bothered by slugs.

Slugs without much doubt. Eats, shoots and leaves!

Start them in trays or cardboard/fibre tubes and then transplant and try a section from a plastic lemonade bottle as a slug barrier.

Thanks for your advice - we are having really bad rain at the mo so I'll wait a while before I sow anymore to put off those wretched slugs!!

Thanks for that - I'll give it a go. I think the frogs in my garden must be abit fat at the mo with all the slugs as my hostas are now being attacked!!

apparently wood ash around the base of Hostas stops slug attack.
