Despite using tons of garlic over the years I have never grown it. I bought some bulbs to plant and am rather confused as to how to plant it. From the packet the diagram seems to show a bulb being planted whole, is rhis right? I had asumed rhat one would plant a clove and that would develop into a bulb, so what do I do with it?
    Cheers

Have not grown it for a while, but I always plant single clove in Autumn - I know some people prefer the Spring for planting.

You say "packet" if they are seeds, then planting will be different.

Should have been in the ground a couple of months ago really. Try a few varieties, I find the purple Argentinian variety grows really well.

you can harvest the garlic when the green leaves turn pale and wilt like onions then lie it out to dry for a couple of days

I have garlic in my garden and you plant the clove not the bulb, and all I do is push the clove into the soil about 3 inches deep in autumn, garlic apparently like a good cold spell in order to 'mature' well.

I had some sprout in early spring so I planted them out, they seem to be doing really well, hope I get something from them!
