runner beans

    i have got my runner beans in the greenhouse and they are starting to get tall. when can they be planted out in the veg patch. this is all new to me and first year of having a veg patch.

    You can do it any time from now onward, but keep an eye open for frost and if there was a possibility although we should be ok, [canes in] and do a low wigwam type of covering 3ft high and take it off in the morning. Old sheets anything will do.

    I've just planted mine out in Glasgow and I'm slightly worried. Fingers crossed though, according to the 'old men' of the allotments in Glasgow May 18th is the last frost date usually.
