    Hi fellow gardners.
I noticed that a garlic clove was starting to sprout. I had an ingenious idea that I could cultivate it. Can I just stick it in a pot of compost with the sprout coming out of the top and grow it like that? Any help would be great, thanks.

    Blue.

hi Blue Fingers... yep that will do it.. in fact you can take the cloves from a whole bulb and push em into the ground and they will form a new bulb... best time to do this is in the autumn as I am told that garlic likes a good cold patch.. why? I have no idea.

Garlic :D take between 16 and 36 weeks to mature depending on the varient and when it was planted.
    wherever possible plant in autumn.
In very cold ares delay planting til early spring.
I plant mine in autumn in 3" pots, put them in a cold frame, and plant them out when they start to sprout in spring
