sweet corn is grown in 18 inch squares to allow for good all round pollination which is done by shaking the plants when they are ready

I grew Pak Choi last year, turned out quite well, lovely stir fried with garlic and crispy bacon, so will probably do them again this year.Courgettes usually do well here they turn out more like marrows so I have plenty to make soup with. [IMG]

big courgettes are lovely to bake, like with aubergines - really yummy! I'm doing them too this year - looking forward to tasting the results - home-grown veg is SO much better!

    Hello [IMG]
Thanks for your recommendations.... have just put in an order for organic courgettes, aubergines and Tomatilloes!!!!! (we shall have to see what they turn out like!! My brood LOVE mexican food!!) Nixon - we shall have to compare notes on them!! :D
I just hope I can manage to keep them all in pots until my garden is finished!!!! I shall be asking the landscapers to get that part of the garden done first!! ;)

Scorzonera, salsify, skirret (ancient carrot thing), purple carrots, loads of colourful beans and peas of all types, good king henry, apple cucumber, melons, babbingtons leeks, borage, lovage, tatties (heritage types), large french dandelions, jersey kale, Ramsons (wild garlic) which there are tons of growing wild around glasgow, loads of herbs and all the usual stuff apart from cabbages which I hate (school dinner nightmares).

I stress that this is what I WANT to grow, whether or not my plot will look like a barren wasteland in mid summer remains to be seen.

Nixon - I have been soooo disorganised, I have only put in some sweet peas!! My Tomatillo seeds came this week, so this afternoon, I shall be putting in seeds like mad!!! I then put them in the airing cupboard for a few days to germinate, so, hopefully, next week, I'll have had some progress!!! So, you are way ahead of me already!!!!!!! (sitting here this morning isn't helping, either!!! ;) )- had better bet my finger out!!

We have just planted our first lot of potato seeds this week , covered them with straw and frost protection fleece. I put the in furrows on a bed of 2 yr old manure so hope fully they will grow into a lovely crop of earlies.. Also put cabbage, sprouts, lettuce, and leek in propagators so here we go this is the lull before the storm. We all have to get ready for the long lovely hours spent in the gardens, veg patches, fields etc.

as a newbee to all this. I hope to have 2 hanging baskets full of tomatoes, and a large tub also with tomatoes.

i have 2 troughs for letttuce and another for spring onion.

Have also bought a large tub for cucumber.

chilli, pepper, garlic & strawberries all in pots.

have a large tub of mint, that looks after itself, and am also growing chives.

    wish me luck !!!
