    Hi everybody,
Does anybody know if there is a particular type of grass that doesnt stain when your dog pees on it? I moved in to my new home last summer and I have two dogs and they are leaving the lawn very patchy! However, I'm sure I didn't have this problem at my last home so I figured it must be the type of grass. Any ideas anybody? Many thanks for now.

Zippy, it`s only bitches which cause this problem. There`s not a lot you can do about the problem except keep them off the lawn.

You can follow them out when they go outside and water over the area they have peed on, in fact you will find when it's diluted the lawn will actually be greener because the pee contains urea have you noticed the very green ring of grass just around the area thats been scorched.

Yes that is a contradiction in terms. The correct name for female canines is Bitches. The name Dog is given only to the males of some species including canines...

But I do get the joke LOL...

I have several bitches that are using my lawn as a toilet and it is really doing my head in. I bought some stones for £11 from a pet superstore that you put in their water bowls. Apparently they take out the acid and stop the scorch. I can't tell you whether or not they work from personal experience yet but I was told that they do by another user who has 1 bitch...

I really wish that I could train them to pee on a gravelled area but they are relentless. If I had any hair I'd be pulling it out...

Any help on how to treat the scorches please?

You let the bitches pee on your lawn and put up with the scorches
OR you train the bitches to pee somewhere else - a sand and gravel pit maybe.
My dog keeping friends manage to train their bitches where to pee.

I have two bitches that have been trained to pee on gravel. It is ideal as you can basically dig deep down and make a soak away and just keep topping up the gravel. I wouldn’t let them go on a flat hard surface such as patio or slate as firstly the pee will splash back (which they don’t like) and secondly the pee will run in one direction or another and if that’s towards their paws you will just get them with pee smelling feet (which will also get around the house)! If they need to go on the grass then you could always have a watering can ready to go and just flush the area dissipating the urine and therefore reducing the scorch effect. But trust me the gravel option is by far the best.

Thanks for the tip old man. I have just moved to a new place with my lot (5 bitches and 1 dog at the moment)...

I am up against it because my pack immediately covered the already scorched lawn from the previous owner's GSD. I am currently actively discouraging them from peeing on the grass, and diluting as and when with the hose pipe...

It's not enough though, I feel a bit like I am paddling up stream. I am dead set on allowing them free range of my garden so I don't want to fence off. re training is proving a slow process as their primal instincts are over riding my efforts...

The thing is my lot are actually well behaved, and well trained in other aspects of our lives...

 Well not sure but told Tomato juice in their water does something to their pee to neutralise it so it doesn't burn the grass.!!.

I bought some stones from a pet superstore to put in their water bowls to do the very same thing...

I can't say whether they work yet as it is a few week process apparently?

Said I'm knackered for this Summer and to try to fix it for next...
