Would somebody please advise me on a good lawnmower. Electric would be best for me I presently have a Mounfield Princess 14" cut with a grass box that is worn out and the back plate has broken and it gets a bit uncomfortable dodging stones and grass as it is fired up at you while mowing.

I need one that is reasonably light as I have to lift it on to the front garden, I also cut the grass verges 4-5 doors up and down the road (thats a lot of extension leads) this seems to encourage people to pick up after their dogs and keeps the road generally looking nicer. I think the council (Lewes) only allow for 6 cuts each year and the verges look awful if I don't mow them.

I am not sure how much I would have to spend it may be worth having the Mountfield serviced!!

    I would appreciate your thoughts.

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

Dave I should imagine that your cheapest option would be to go on the Mountfield website and see if you can buy a replacement grass box and backplate.

From your description Id say a small petrol mower would be a lot more practical than messing with leads etc and you could wheel it as oposed to carying it.

To be honest Ive never used electric machines so dont know a lot about them but I think hayter may do one. Dont rule out petrol off hand though.

    Dear David
Don't know much about electric lawnmowers as I've always had a motor mower. I think I would not like all the trailing wires with an electric mower and would be afraid of running over the cable.
My current mower is a Honda rotary ( petrol )I must have had it for nearly 20 years. It was not cheap and at the time we had just moved into a new house and money was tight. However it was probably one of the best thinga I have ever bouight in my life. It has never ( and I mean "never" let me down) Every 4-5 years I get it seviced and I cut the lawns once a week throughtout the season. It always starts straight away. I for one would never buy anything else if I came to replace it but that's not to say other machines aren't good.
Try the internet for reviews etc. I recently bought a new camera and there were loads of review sites that I spent weeks looking at before making a final decision.
    Good luck
