Is there still this time of christmas to sow any bald patches? Would it still germinate if i did some sowing now? I just wondered since now cutting is going to become at most monthly over the coming months.

Newbie, if the area isn`t to big I would say give it a go, it`s still mild and the ground is moist. If you can get the seed to germinate in the next 10 days or so I think it`s worth a try. David.

    should be fine.

Run a spring tine rake over to scratch up the bald areas. Mix a bit of sived soil in with the seed to help it stick and stop the birds.

Pro gard is quite right. Don't make the mistake of just throwing seed on the bald patch and waiting, it'll be a long wait.

IMHO it's worth spending a couple of quid on a bag of screened steralized top soil, rather than using soild from your beds, it'll help minimise the risk of potential weed growth.

Once the patches are sown it is essential to keep the seed beds moist ie.if we get no rain, lightly water to avoid the seed drying out as this will greatly reduce the amount of seed that germinates.

You could do but then you might aswell just by a square yard of turf and cut and insert as oposed to waiting for germination etc.

Personally i would just overseed using the method described.
