    good morning all

just wondered if any one owns a flymo pac a mow i got one last year in the sales and the reason i bought it was it has a roller to get lines with !.

thing is i have used it quite a few times now and can't seem to get any lines any one else have this problem with there mower ?

i have searched the net and followed how to do it cut all the way round on the edge and then go down turn around and come back up but still nothing !

does the grass have to be quite long does anyone know to get the lines or is my mower a pile of poo ?

    any advice would be great

    thanks for reading

Rollers usually have to be quite heavy, after all the lines are only from flattened grass.

Maybe you just need to look from the distance!! You're doing the right things, and you can get lines fromusing even a flymo like that, - unless maybe you're going up and back down the same row each time?????

That's all I can think of! You need to go up one row, and back down the next, etc, etc, etc.

    I have a flymo that dosen't have a roller.
So whatI do is cut the grass, rake up the debris and then with a broom run up the lawn dragging the broom behind me.
Do the first line going up and the second coming down. You can tie a brick or something to add aa little weight to the broom head or not as the case may be. It works for me.

Fonzie,I have to mow the lawn I just have got no time to be dragging a broom or brick on the lawn. we have a very large lawn and it will take me all day to do this process. feel sure there is an easy way of achieving lines on the lawn.

There is a book in Waterstones which I looked at yesterday. It's easy to find as it's in the Gardening section and the front of the book is covered in artificial turf.

I forget the name of it but you wont miss it and it is about decorative gardens with the main focus on how to make your lawn look good and particularly how to put stripes in it.

It's only a small book and you can probably just read it whilst your in the shop, no need to purchase it!

It mentions what type of blades to use and what settings to have your mower on.

    Good luck!

Hi cattwoman25. just a note on your stripes. I stripe my lawn, with a different mower to you, but it really depends where the sun is or how the light shines on the grass. If you walk round your lawn, you may find the stripes are more obvious at the other end of the garden.
To mak the stripes more obvious, keep mowing the lawn in the same pattern several times, then mow from side to side occasionally,

thanks for your advice compostee i have been doing that keeping to the same way when mowing , i have even put loads of my dads lead fishing weights in the rear roller to get some more weight but still no stripes [IMG]

im thinking i need to get a differant type of mower or move the sun :D

just a quick question if you can spare the time do you leave your lawn to grow quite a bit before mowing ? does that make a differance getting the stripes and also do you cut on the lowest cut or leave it a little higher ?

    many thanks

Just wondering if you've got a very tough sort of grass, Cattwoman - I mean, seriously! :D If it's really resistant to being flattened, it'll just bounce up again, and you won't see stripes. It could be you have a grass that was chosen to be tough for kids playing football on it, or something like that.......

Even if it isn't, you could always say it was! ;)
