Guys , This is my first time on here so any help would be appreiated. So here goes. I have a basic large rectangle lawn with trees round two sides planted by a Farmer. Over thelast few years the lawn has been great in the middle but now round the sides it is very bare with no grass , presuably the trees are sapping the soil and making it dry. The lawn in places now is so dry with no grass on , just cracks so i need to get the grass back up. Do i first Aerate the lawn and just sow the lawn again , so i need help with what to do , do i start putting grass seed down as soon as its ready now , someone suggested a rye grass seed mix , and this sounds stupid do i just aerate the lawn and put the seeds down or is it just as easy as that?? If anyone can help what to use , how i do it , how i repair it , how much do i put down etc etc.

Any help would be appreciated guys.

    Dano.

Dano the only way you will recover your lawn is to dig down at the edge and chop off all the encroaching roots from the trees if necessary dig the bigger ones out of the lawn level it off and reseed it or turf it, you will of course get the problem again as soon as the roots re grow, sorry but there is no easy fix
