Hi,can anyone help me with a problem I've had with my lawn for about 4/5 years.
It started off with a patch of lawn which just seemed to go dead but it then spread into almost a half circle. I dealt with it by removing the dead patches and re-seeding but after initially growing, the same thing happened again.
My next step was to remove the dead grass and the soil underneath to a depth of about 6 inches and replace with fresh soil and compost, then re-seed. However, the seeded area grew but the problem area moved out and widened the circle.
Last year I removed all the dead lawn again and dug down even deeper replacing the soil and then turfing and seeding. (I should probably add at this stage that with all of the above steps, all seems to be well until we get a dry spell and then the affected lawn just goes brown and dies off).
After the treatment last year, I was just beginning to think that I'd cracked it when due to the dry weather, it's happened again. The re-seedand and turfed areas look green, but the circle of dry grass has just extended out further (the area affected is about a foot wide extending in a semi circle).
I've spoken to several people about this but no one seems to be able to offer an explanation or a solution to the problem. The only comments I get is, "Oh you've got a fairy circle". I have wondered if the problem is due to a fungus as each time when I dig down, the soil appears to have white powdery areas.
I'm now at a complete loss as what to do. Can anyone please help me?

    Thanks Sean

I now at least know what the problem is. When people said I had a fairy circle, I just thought they were joking - now I know better!
I'll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Sean

After searching through the Yellow Pages and local directories, I managed to find only one company that specialises in lawns, however they said that there was no treatment available for fairy rings and that the only thing I could do was to try to control it by applying a solution of fairy liquid to the affected areas.
Can you please give me the name of the treatment your company used and whether this is available to buy.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Joanann

Here are the contacts numbers for GreenThumb:

Get in touch with them and see if there is anyone from GreenThumb working in your area.

I haven't got fairy rings but after just one visit my lawns look 100% better.
