    Hi All,

I have just removed a large area of gravel to reveal pretty bad soil and lots of stone (and rubble where an old pond used to be). I would like to lay turf or sow seed, can i lay turf directly on such bas surface or should i do lots of preperation firt - if so how much ?

Thanks in advance for your help

From the sound of it, yes you will need to prepare it before either turfing or seeding. Fork it over, and rake out the bigger stones before sowing seed - though that takes a bit of time to establish. If turfing walk the surface flat and then lay hte turf. Have you laid turf before?.

You get what you pay for, and cheap turf from B&Q may not give you the green carpet you want.

I would strongly suggest that you take a look for a good turf supplier - after you have prepared the surface. Supply them with the measurements, and they will provide you with the right quantity.

We can help with how to lay turf if you wish.

Your welcome. Preperation of the surface can be a hard work, but the results will more than pay back, as you sit on your greensward, sipping a glass of chilled wine :D
