After the tremendous amount of rain we seem to have had over the last month or so when I was in the garden at the weekend it was very squelchy (technical term!) and sodden- the worse I have ever seen it. I didnt want to tread on it too much in case i did more damage. Yesterday it was quite nice here in the midlands and didnt rain once and the day before was ok too but slight frost in the mornings. last night I went out and was amazed by how much better it was after just a couple of days. It was still wet (I am on clay soil) but it wasnt squelchy anymore. May even be able to mow it the weekend if this nice weather continues. what's everyones like- have you mowed yet?

My garden is on a slope and my raised beds are at the top of the garden, where I would have expected good drainage. I have reseeded the grass around here and there are bald patches next to the beds where I am going to put paving later.
Where I have been standing by the raised beds, it is so wet that it is now slippy mud! My soil is deep loam.
I can't cut until (if?) it dries out a bit.

    Very wet!
Our lawn goes yellow when it gets too much water, the wind is the best thing for drying it out.

Gardens at the school have been cut three times since end of Feb. Dont really like cutting so early but were in a "Best kept school competition". Was judged today, judge thought it was to cold and didnt even walk round the school . Why bother? :( :(

the weather here has been very wet and cold, but i ve seen people absolutely hammering lawns by cutting as close as one can imagine, its quite incredible cos every gardening prog says evry year, "raise the cut for first two or three times!" i know they look a bit tidier than uncut lawns, but i still think one should wait till there is some warmth in the air.

The soil under my lawn is very clay-ey and so after the very wet winter, it now looks like a marshland - so much moss you wouldn't believe! The moss is even invading the flower beds.

we cut ours last week as they were starting too look untidy we had two dry days and did it then..i have lots of bare patches in the back garden where the dog has been running to catch the local squirell..so i gave it a good feed and hopefully it will soon pick up..since we cut it we have had lots of rain and sun so its growing fast again..i have all sorts of things popping up in my lawns...oxeye daisys they love to spread themselves around..and wild chamomile joining it..allthough they wont flower as we cut the grass regular...i would love to leave it and grow a meadow but the lord and master indoors wouldnt be able to live with it...as long as the lawn is tidy he doesnt mind if the rest looks wild...

Just put down new turf in front garden, so I won't be cutting for a while, it's solid clay under the thin topsoil so stays sodden and winter and bakes dry in summer. [IMG]

I've cut mine twice this year now, and its the driest I can remember it being at this time of the year. Rain is forcast for next week though and its bound to rain over the Easter holiday. :(

I was thinking if it stayed dry I would mow tomorrow... at 4.30 it started pouring down. The local park have cut theirs but you can see it was a bit wet in places.
Can't see there being any chance of a hosepipe ban here, we'll all be needing them to pump the water away. :(
To add insult to injury we're still having frost in the morning, too!

Parts of my lawn are so soggy because of shed roof/greenhouse roofs.

Bought another water butt and linked them, as my first one was overflowing ...... Making the base of my shed damp and the lawn very wet and boggy.

Looking at the amount of rain outside at the moment ...... a third linked water butt may be in order !!!!

I spoke too soon about it being dry, last night it fell down all night, some of it was snow.
Had a couple of inches of really heavy wet snow this morning, really has bent everything over, some are not going to recover, had some broken branches on shrubs.
