Can ANYONE please help me......we have just had a new lawn laid by cowboys. They rotovated the old lawn (there wasnt much lawn left after a big gardening revamp) but didnt really firm and rake it, then they laid the turf and whacked it down. There are small gaps in the joints and its not really level and now its higher than it should be. I would normally of stopped them at the beginning and complained but hubby works away from home alot and its scary being here alone just in case they turned nasty. I know im in for a battle but can anyone tell me what to do for the best now?????????????

1st question: Have you paid 'em?

If not then you have some leverage to get them back and remedy situation to your satisfaction.

Otherwise report them to your local trading standards and anyone else you can think of. Small claims might work but if they are cowboys then it's probably good money after bad.

Your turf won't be established yet so it can be re-lifted and the soil firmed and leveled before re-laying

Thanks for the advice, My hubby paid them already so cant stop it, they dont charge VAT so he has reported them for that and yes we will report them to trading standards, also it was a large looking company with no mobile numbers etc, whats a person to do???? I should have listened to my gut instinct but being new to the area its very much trial and error who to call. It makes me want to cry when i look at it, yes it is brilliant grass, no yellowing etc, but the lawn is huge and it would take me forever to lift it and sort out the c**p and relay it. I am using lawn magic etc to give it the best possible start, i love gardening and we have had to create this whole garden from scratch so it is dissapointing to say the least. Will keep you posted as to wether it survives or not. Thanks again for being so helpful.

If this makes you feel any better - when I moved into my present domicile six years ago, I knew nothing about gardening. I spotted a card in a newsagents window for a gardener "no job too small" type of guy. I had him come and do some elementary landscaping which included about 15 tons of topsoil and a new lawn.

Well, the lawn never has been terribly good and it looks more like a crumpled duvet than a lawn! And the flowers beds!!

Well, I soon discovered that the soil was almost 60% pure clay, lumps you could put straight onto a potter's wheel! And now I have just had the advice of a proper professional gardener who has informed me that the "topsoil" this guy used is actually subsoil and contains something (can't recall what he said) that actually burns the roots!!

Oh Daisy, what did you do??. My lawn looks like a nice furry duvet at the mo, lots of watering and TLC and i have managed to get under alot of it and remove the rubbish, but its still bumpy, at least its green. What a beautiful day here in Norfolk today, lets hope it lasts. Did you sort out your beds daisy??
