This may have been suggested before, but i think it's a great tip.Instead of using crocks in the bottom of your pots use used t-bags,in fact you could just put the t-bag in first and then your crocks, the t-bag may even stop insects crawling in the bottom of your pots. [IMG]

Now there's a thought. I usually put polystyrene in the bottom of mine (lighter than crocks or gravel) but I will add a few teabags too, now that you've said that.

Sorry, must have missed original post. Are teabags used or not when you put them in? Know they are used when used in compost but don't know about these. How old can they be (used or whatever) we have loads!
    Thank you

Re-read that - sounds bad!!! i mean can they be a day old or whatever? anything else would be chucked in compost.

It doesn't matter actually borrowers. The 'hole' point of it (aaaargh. don't ban me please [IMG] ) is to stop the compost or soil dropping out of the bottom whilst giving a free run of water out of the pot so it doesn't get water-logged. You could, I suppose, use fresh teabags but they won't be any better (and when it rains you will have tea coming out of the hole) so it's obviously more sensible (and cheaper) to use used ones. It's doubtful if your plants would pick up any diseases from an old tea bag so, unless it's rancid, age is neither here nor there. And I'm an expert on age. I'm practicing it. Oh yes! [IMG]

    Hi there peeps,

I don't drink tea (filter coffee if you don't mind ok ya :D ), need the higher caffeine  but i might just buy some to try this out. I do have herbal t-bags maybe i should try them too [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] quite like the idea of soothing the plants with camomile tea :D [IMG] [IMG] the violin i cannot play alas.

hello & thanks for that tip. I have a(nother) confession. I haven't put any crocks or anything in the bottom of my pots - aahhhh. I just used the compost stuff. the pots are all quite small so maybe that's helped me this year, but next year i will be good & use tea bags/crocks - promise
