Last year I grew basil, parsley. runner beans in pots and baby spinach. Have bought more pots, 3 bags of soil, 3 grow bags, 3 bags multi-compost. Then realized I don't know what I'm doing. I have no garden. Keen to grow things, What do people advise, please?

er...I'm not too late am I?

Hi there and welcome. No your not too late to plant pots ups. By using different sizes of pots you can creat quite a display. Depending on the plants you chose to grow, all you need to do is to ensure that the pots can drain, and then keep things fed and watered.

I usually use a 50/50 mix of multi purpose and vermiculite - and add some slow release fertiliser.

Are you growing on a balcony, or patio or ????

Hi, I always use john innes no3 or a multi purpose with john innes, otherwise just multipurpose dis-intergrates and turns to dust. So you end up spending more money! ;)

Hi frangi, you can grow most things in pots. Try the "Tumbler" tomatoes, they have small fruits and are very prolific. They fruit just at the right time, July/August. I use Growmore fertilizer and they seem quite happy. I use grwbag compost in the pots. All the best

Another vote for the 'bush' tomatoes. I like 'Tiny Tim' bumper crop with little effort. I just use the compost from a B&Q growbag in my pots.

Hi, naepace, I'll give the "Tiny Tim" a try, if I can find any in a G. Centre. If they're happy in Perth I'm sure they'll be quite happy down here

Am hoping to grow herbs in an old pot Belfast/ Butlers sink, any suggestions on best kind of compost to use? I understand herbs do best if the soil/compost is not too fertile.
