Can anyone identify this little beauty? I've had it for years, and keeps coming back without very much attention. It's just started to flower in the last week or so. It would happily spread all over my border if I allowed it.

It's a viola or common dog violet, very pretty aren't they?

It may be pretty but it is slowly wiping out all but the toughest plants on one of my rock gardens. It grows in them and chokes them eventually. It is a worse weed than ground elder in my opinion.

Really? Ok Palustris, noted, thanks. Should be ok for now as it's restricted to a through.

It seeds like mad, so it is very difficult to contain. You would need to remove all spent flowers to stop it. The seed heads 'explode' sending the seeds a fair distance.

Looks a bit like a Geum to me, I have a red one that grows in between on the patio, looks very much like mine.
