Hi, you put Japanese mapels in ericacious compost. Yes they are easy to look after they can stay in the same pot for years cos they are very slow growing and only nead a feed a few times a yr in summer, again ericacious plant food. [IMG]

I have a fabulous one planted in the garden by the previous owners and one I am growing in a pot, excactly the same as T O says in the ericacious compost, good point about the food though I haven't done that yet! but what I did do over winter was to keep it in the greenhouse just in case.

I know they don't like a very windy position either. ;)

If it`s one of the dissectums make sure you keep it in a sheltered spot otherwise the leaves will scorch. David,

I've got a few, they don't seem that fussy. The biggest is 2m tall in a large pot in neutral soil. I feed it with ericacious plant food but they're certainly not as sensitive to alkaline conditions as things like blueberries. I'll probably plant it in the ground later this year. It suffered a bit last year in the hot sun, best grown in slight shade I'd say.

I've got 3 smaller ones, and two seedlings I raised myself. Lovely plants!

I went to New Zealand in February. They've got an amazing collection in the Christchurch botanical gardens. I collected lots of seeds so hopefully I'll have some new additions next spring [IMG]
