This came up a while ago.
It looks like borage but is basically a weed, or wild relative.

Don't know Samsoph but it doesn't look as though it earns its space.
Unless you are sentimentally attached to it I would have it out.
If your daughter feels an attachment leave til the end of the season and have it out then - but don't let it seed - you could have worthless plants everywhere.

    Hello again Gill.

I have now looked this up in my Med Wildflower book and I agree with Pete that it appears to be Borage offincinalis. It is also called Starflower and is an annual herb naturalized throughout the Mediterranean. I think it is an attractive plant.

You can use both the leaves and flowers in salads or as a garnish but has many culinary uses especially in soups and pasta dishes. Supposedly the fresh leaves taste slightly of cucumber and the flowers like honey and the leaves and flowers were originally used in Pimms before the now traditional mint.

You can make a filling for ravioli with it or an omelette.
I guess very much what you would use nettles for ( I love the in an omelette)...

Thanks all for the fast replies to my post and thanks especially to Pete and Victoria you were right, looking at other peoples pics after googling "starflower" this is spot on even though my pics weren't great.
My daughter calls it 'Monster' its up to her waist, i think we'll leave it there, the flowers are very pretty and its only in a bit of waste garden by the side of the shed so if it overtakes anything its not too much of a problem.
    So thanks again all
    Gill

I like to use the flowers..I preserve the flowers with egg white & then in sugar! Candied borage flowers have been used for years as cake decorations
