    Hi folks,

Sorry to ask again but here goes -

one of my broom plants has got little seed pods on. Can I pick them and save the seeds - any point or would I never achieve anything from seed anyway ? Any ideas ?

    Thanks again

I moved my broom last year as it got too big for position. I knew I would loose it as they are very bad movers, so I took some seeds from pods.

My seeds still have not germinated, but look at my broom that I thought was dead!

Lovely colour Waco. I don't know much about propagating broom but always understood they were very hardy and should take from seed very easily.

We were on holiday when I took this photo. This was a broom growing wild and they were growing wild over an area of hundreds of square miles. The winters there are very hard and windy and we were there in the summer with the temperature at 5 degrees centigrade (and the wind 40 mph). They seem to spread from seed quite easily.

I would wait until the pods are opening on their own on the plant and then take the seeds.
    Good luck

I picked some pods in France last year and planted the seeds in February in the greenhouse. The germination rate was good, and two are planted out in the garden now.

That's a big flowered one you have there Waco, nice colour too.

Yes, Waco, that's a beautiful colour broom. I've not seen that one before! You do pick some gems!

There are seed pods on same plant now - if any of you fancy a go at germinating, then just ask.

Poor plant is still rocking in the bottom of the hedge where I half planted it, hope it continues to thrive.

Evening, Waco. You've probably already posted the envelope to me, so if you could earmark a few of these seeds for me to send at another time I would like to have a go, please. I love pinks, oranges and reds together so they good go with the poppies, the snapdragons, the pink Margarita, the orange Tecomaria, the deep pink Cercis and the pink Oleander, footed by orange Lion's Tails, Marigolds and Gerberas and pink Evening Primrose!

Thanks again everyone, one of the brooms is the same as yours, Waco, albeit a fair bit smaller, and the colours are beautiful. It only flowers for a very short while, but that might just be mine ! I'm not experienced in gardening at all, but I think I will try taking some seeds from the pods as they start to open, nothing to lose.

I think I was really quite concerned in seeing the pods that that meant I'd let it go to seed and would lose it ? Thought maybe if I'd trimmed it back right after flowering it wouldn't have developed the pods ?

Hi, Waco. I picked up the Orange Poppy Thing seeds today, thank you. I only go to the post box twice a week as it's 6km away! Many thanks ... I shall scatter some with gay abandon in the autumn as I fear they'd dry to dust if I did it now!
