We have a long narrow garden facing west with 3 foot high fencing both sides with a path running along the left hand side.Problem is we would to add height to our borders without cutting off our neighbours. Was wondering if wisteria in a pot would do the trick.

If you added trellis to your fences this would give dappled shade and leave a more open aspect, then you could have denser growth up it in some areas if you wanted privacy.
My experience of wisteria in pots has been totally unsuccessful, roots eaten by the dreaded vine weevil, but I'm sure others have had success! It would give open shade as well.

As liz said vine weevils could be a problem in anything in a pot,but along the road from us there is a house that has a beautiful wisteria growing in a pot along some trellis that divides up the neighbours gardens,it must be several years old,but looks great.
