I grew some hellebores from seed and most are fine but There are a couple with the leaves going brown and papery though the new growth is o.k.
They are about 5" tall can anyone tell me what might be wrong

The old leaves do go brown and die off. This should be ok as long as there are new healthy leaves to keep the plant going.

Did they flower, mine didnt flower for two years even though the plant was getting bigger, however this year its first blooms appeared weeks ago and it is still in flower though the blooms are slowly looking a bit tired. The leaves at the bottom have gone brown but the rest looks pretty healthy. I dont know if they are meant to take a while to flower or not, but if they are mine was a cutting off someone elses plant so I guess from seed it might take even longer.

no none of them flowered but the ones with the brown leaves are the runty ones and it started off with blotchs on the leaves, I thought I had maybe sprayed them with bug killer or something, it was the top leaves went brown but I can see the beginning of new green leaves. It said on the packet it would take two years to flower. What is the best medium for them to grow in?
