    Hi there

Just wondered if anyone can suggest an attractive plant with a long flowering period that will grow in a pot and ramble over a shed. I've never grown a climber in a pot before but as the shed is on a concrete base I will need to. How do I stop the frost killing it during the Winter?

    Thank you.

Buy a climber that is hardy to stop frost killing it.

You need to know the aspect before you buy - south west N E. You need to knoew this.

    Hi

I think it is a North East aspect. Gets lots of sun in the morning but not later on

North East is not easiest of places for flowers, but can be done. I know you want flowers, but things like Ivey and pyracantha would give you good colour.

If you are hell bent on flowers, there are some roses like NE aspect - check this out but I think "New Dawn" will do it, and some clematis ??armandii?? Cir...... oh someone will fill in the gaps if you don't find it in a book. Hydrangia, does not need support and you could grow a climber through it. I also make my euonimous climb and grow stuff through it .....

Well I am sure someone will chip in with some ideas on this theme for you

    Good luck

for something quick growing over a shed russian vine but you will just get seasonal flowers or you could go for passion flower a hardy one they give great coverage, also honeysuckle.
Hop golden vine is quick grown but does not flower you could still add this one with the others for coverage quickly, make sure you have large pots.

Clematis Montana Rubra is a good climber and will soon clothe anything and will keep going forever as long as you keep it watered

Thanks for your suggestions. I've been looking these up on the internet. Would the clematis you mentioned need shade at the base of the stem Kandy?

Our Clematis is on a South Facing wall so it's head is in the sun but the roots are shaded by plants that are there all year round.

You can get the Clematis in pink or white and can be trained to how you want it.

A neibour of ours has used Russian Vine but though it has covered the garage, is strangling all plants that it has come into contact with.

I personally wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, but each to their own.

If you want something quick, cheap and cheefull for this summer while you get something else established then why not plant up a container of sweetpeas. They will quickly head upwards to the light and then tumble over the shed roof. Just put a bit of netting over the roof to give them something to latch on to or, if you want something more permanant for a clematis, put up some trellising which you would need anyway.
