What is this plant?

This was sold as Arabis 'Snowmound'. I thought it would be white. Does anyone know what it is, please?

 

Looks like Arabis. They must have got the variety wrong- pretty though!

I've been looking for Arabis 'Snowmound' and can't find it anywhere, just a Spirea 'Snowmound'!! And it's certainly not a spirea!! But I agree - I'd expect it to have white flowers.

 

If you can tell me how to propagate from it dendrobium, I'll give it a go and send you a bit (providing I'm successful!)

 

Cuttings after flowering as you do with violas. Or seed ( not always true to colour though). Treat like aubrieta and cut back after flowering.

 

or division!! that's the other option according to my handy reference book on propagating! :D If you've never done it, it's good fun! According to the book you can do this with arabis at any season - dig it up, take a knife of some sort, and slice through the plant, making sure you have roots on each piece, and pot them up or re-plant them, depending on what you want to do with them - and, of course, water well!! You can do the same thing with lots of perennials, but with the bigger ones you need bigger knives, or even the back-to-back fork set-up, and a fair bit of brute strength helps too! The book I use is "Plant Propagation from A-Z", sub-titled "growing plants for free"- a very handy book! :D

 

To divide it, is it best to wait until its finished flowering?

 

I would - although it says it doesn't matter in that book!!

 

I've found this one, Sunnygardens: Arabis caucasica 'Snowcap' but yours definitely ain't white :D
