Hello everyone, I am quite new to this board - and post only rarely, but with all this weather etc I have only just got out to the garden for the first time this year.

And there are pools of water atop the boggy clay. I have lost count of the number of plants that have rotted in these conditions over winter.

I wonder if you could recommend any plants for this neutral ish clay wet plasticene that purports to be my garden!!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Many thanks, Anne X

I live on damp land by river, but my soil is limey, however these plants should do for you too -
dog woods (cornus) you can get lovely varieties, I grow about 7 different ones with fantastic winter stem colour.
Lysimacia - perenial but avoid creeping Jenny, I have a lovely black one and varigated one.
    Bamboo, willow (salix)
    Just a few for starters.

Try to get as much organic stuff into soil to break it up and give drainage.

when I moved into my garden it was full of dog woods and I wondered wyh until I dug them up, planted all sorts only to loose them all in the flood. Now I try to plant interesting varieties of plants I know will survive and always keep a nursery bed of growers incase we get wiped out again!

Just reading your first post again Gazania, I think you want not so much clay plants as bog plants.

    Try Googling that eg:-
    http://www.burncoose.co.uk/bog-plants.cfm

In the wettest part of my clay garden I grow Eupatorium Purpurea (tall), Filipendula Rosea Venusta (tall), Astilbe, Monarda, Lobelia, Lythrum and Schizostylis. In another part I also have Iris, Primula Vialii and Liatris which are also classed as bog plants.
