Just put some provado vine weevil killer on some of my pots, and now realised that its bad for bees. Coz it smelled so dreadful I only used ~2/3 recommended strength, and nowhere near the amount of solution packet recommend. Of course then i twigged I'd made it weak because it was very toxic, and bad for things. So ive gone and rinsed off any solution on leaves, and soaked the soil pretty well. (also saw first ladybird of season, hope I didnt kill it!) Is there anything else I can do? the bees are fond of some of the stuff ive got planted in the big pots. Are they bright enough not to go near them if they are poison, when there is other stuff available?? Not the brightest thing ever to look Provado up after i used it, but packet didnt say anything (), and ive seen it mentioned around so i assumed it was ok... also tired and had lots of annoying stuff to do....
well i think i've seen one twice, or it could have been the thing that looks a lot like it, as both times it was darkish. i do think this is the kind of area they are likely to be, lots of gardens in suburban London, and people have said if you dont use a preventative, they will almost certainly show up. I should hopefully get a reasonably well payed job within next month or so, because i really like the idea of nematodes, and i dont like using stuff thats essentially poison
According to the blurb, the new formula Provado Vine Weevil stuff is no longer toxic to bees. Not saying it is or it isn't, but the original main ingredient certainly was.
You should be OK if it was a new bottle & so should the bees.... As Palustris says, changes have been made.. :wink:
