    Hi
Think you might mean Taxus which is from the Yew family. There are a number of slim columnar ones such as Fastigiata, standishii,
    Hope this helps.

Yes you can, I've taken lot over the years. I usually take a small piece of the current seasons growth in late summer and strip off the bottom leaves, then I plant in sharp sand outside and leave them all the winter.
They tend to root in spring the following year, I then pot them up individually.
You could try some now though, it might work. [IMG]

Taxus baccata is the common Yew and yes you can take a hardwood cutting just remember to take a few as it not very reliable and also take 6 to 12 months to root, well without hormonal powder.

A garden I work in has a large old native yew and it always has a lot of small seedlings underneath and round about where birds have eaten the berries so if you have access to a tree it might be worth a look. Most old churchyards have one but ask the Vicar first ;)

It's a very slow grower. Yew is poisonous though, especially to children, pets and stock animals so make sure there will be no danger from future overhanging branches or from berries in curious fingers.
