low soil level - anything that can grow

Hello,

in the front of the house, the soil level is really low (2-3 inches) and I wondered if there is any sort of ground cover that could grow there despite of that.

The plan is to put some plants there put some stones around them, so it will discourage my cats to use it as a litter tray and rather use one of the many I provide inside!!

Ajuga Reptans, Aubrieta, Lamium, Vinca, Thymus, Pulmonaria, Polygonum, Hypericum, Geranium, Euonymus, Bergenia, Sedum.

 

Sempervivums, Phlox subulata hybrids.

 

Hi,

I agree with Lisa that Vinca(periwinkle) would be excellent.Vinca minor only grows about 6 inches tall but as I found spreads quite quickly.Being evergreen it has something to offer all year and from early May has lovely purple flowers.

Word of warning - if using Vinca ensure that your bed does not border your neighbours bed - its a thug, spreads by underground runner.

 

Snow in summer is an evergreen with silvery leaves and masses of white flowers in summer. It also doesn't mind a dry situation which I assume such a shallow depth will be.

 

Is snow in summer the same as snow on the mountain?

 

I dont think so

 

You could try something like Wallflowers or Valerian. When you see wallflowers growing wild 10 foot up a wall with essentially no soil, you realise how they got their name. Valerian will do the same.
