    Hello People! [IMG]

I am very new to this. I am only young-ish, and am wanting to learn more about gardening. I pick things up as I go along.

Today I picked up a rather poorly looking Red Gooseberry plant from Tesco of all places. I saw it sat alone on the shelf and thought it needed rescuing. :(

Has anyone any ideas on what I should do with it now? I realised when I got it home that it came with the instrictions for a Japenese Acer, which I know is not part of the same family of the Gooseberry plant!! ;)

hi, I would dig it in with a bit of nice John Innes mixed with the soil and just a bit of shelter from strong winds until it gets going should be off in the spring.

    Welcome to GC, EllieMiller!
When I saw 'red gooseberries' my mouth instantly started watering! One summer when I was but a lass, a green grocer's on my way to work seemed to have an endless supply of these lucious fruit, all nice and plum and juicy. I'd buy them by the pound and take them to work and they'd be gone before you could say knife (ha ha - worked in an operating theatre!!)

When I saw the word Gooseberry, it reminded me of when I was little and my Dad waited until I had just put a gooseberry in my mouth and he told me it was a sheeps eye ball!!! :(

I have never been able to touch them since. I am hoping that the red ones with break me free of this awful memory!! ;)
