hi im sue iv just joined the site & i was just saying hi to every one i love gardening im 36 so i dont know every thin about gardening im doin nvq 1 in gardening & just started to run communtiy garden volentery.and me & 4 others got gold in another communtiy garden first time iv ever won anythin in gardening it was great

hi sue and co, as the winter nights draw in what can we do to our ground? I have just got an ollotment ( scuse spelling) and i havent a clue what to do now should i just be thinking of protecting it from cold etc or is there something i can do for these cold months? Do u know of any sites i can logg on to to get great info - wanting to know more so about veg!

 

i think you should be out there on a weekend chatting up other people and finding out ideas for planting
you want to think about preparing the ground and if you want to grow early potatoes for example look for some fleece to warm up the soil ,, try to source some manure/compos
you can sow [ie seeds] inc broad beans and parsnip
fairly early
you can try "heritage" varieties which tend to have flavour and avoid F1 which all ripen together

what 2 do in january?apart from planning im a bit stumped.everything i try 2 grow indoors dosent seem to last very long.i have a mini green house which is probabbly to cold for anything right now.thinking about mushrooms under the kitchen sink as everything that occupies that space never seems to get used.

 

hi Sue and happy new year everyone.also thinking of growing mushrooms and im gonna try tomatoes again.grew toms last year from seed and was so proud,alas died miserably-too small a tub,gunna use buckets this time and manure thanks to my friends good advice over allotment.a bit cold yet only 40 in greenhouse.
