Lovely Stingo! Is that Cosmos you have there? I have some too and it's the best thing that I have ever grown from seeds!

As promised here is a picture of my neighbour's Campsis for PETE.

Everyone has such lovely blooms and I am very envious. My garden is desperate for some rain and is beginning to look very parched. The grass is all dying - but that's a blessing - and some things are looking very unhappy. Must not grumble too much though or else it will rain for a month.. [IMG]

Thats a good one kryssy, they really like the heat.
Walnut, you may have better luck than me, I've never managed to get cuttings of campsis to root.
    I think layering is best.

Well, it's my own fault, I opened my big mouth too soon. It's all grey and cold today - got extra layers on to keep warm!! But, still no rain so I've to trek out in the cold in a minute to water the pots.

I'm going to live in Africa................

Roders - I think my mystery plants which are about to bloom must be asters as they are looking a bit fluffy like yours. They were given to me in a tray with a label saying "Tall" from my dear neighbour who gives me trays of plants every year but never with names. So thank you for that Roders.

I'm enjoying looking at everyone's colourful flowers as bedding plants/perennials don't fare terribly well here in the summer. Thank you everyone who is contributing.

Other than the "wild" Morning Glory here which you can't get rid of, my black and violet coloured ones attained a grand height of six inches, had one bloom each then died! It was again too warm when I did my second sowing of black/purple Sweet Peas and they quickly died at around six inches tall ... hopefully I didn't use all the seeds from the first sowing (October, blooming in February/March).

Nearly bought a Campsis yesterday at the market, about a metre tall for 3 Euros, but remembered they are not evergreen and I don't do deciduous, so I opted for a rose-coloured Canna with three blooming stems for 5 Euros. I know they die back but it's not a dead looking shrub on my wall to look at for months.

I used to grow the Ostrich Feather Asters in Bucks as they are one of t'other half's favourites but I've had no luck on the two occasions I've tried here. :(

kryssy, Portugal is closer than Africa, not quite so hot or humid. [IMG]

    Hi Gilly
Yes they are cosmos, I actually bought them this year from a Womens Institute market stall for £1.60!! they are quite tall and lovely, some are pale pink and some dark pink, never grown them before.

    Kathy
Last year I grew from seed the more common purple one and got loads of blooms, this year I tried the white one and it was much harder to get to produce flowers, that was my first bloom :D
