Anyone remember my stream bed I developed last year? Well lets hope the plants do what I expect of them and not get drowned or washed away

This is the stream in full torrent by the mill

and another of the mill itself

and the bridge which leads to our house/garden

I am confident we will not flood, in 2000 when we came close, the furrows in the old "ridge and furro" field filled up with water, then became a lake and then drained through my garden. the field was so dry it has so far just soaked the water up, so we are OK for a bit longer yet.

Fingers crossed too that you will be safe Waco. A stream is nice but that is frightening.

I've always facied having a stream but this is certainly enough to put you off. Good job we didn't buy the old mill earlier this year!

Hope you don't have too much damage, Waco! [IMG]

Stream bed still looking good despite the swim!

I heard a funny tale from the drinking mob in Pickering though which is market town about 4 miles away.

the heavy mob had been drinking at the "White Rose" when the torrent swept through the pub, when it came up to their knees, they decided to sit on the top of the bar where they ordered more beer! When it again got to knee level, they decided it was time to leg it - or probably swim it!

the water was 5ft high in some of the shops, and what is amazing is that they were on a hill side.

we have had the most terrible thunder storms all day, but I am not worried - YET!

I hope it doesn't get worse. I heard an interesting interview on the radio the other day. There was someone from the a local authority that said all the authorities are supposed to keep a stock of filled sandbags to give to the people who need them. They also should have a stock of empty bags and stocks of sand for you to fill the bags with.

It is an interesting question to ask the council.

thanks all, yes there are sand bags around, we only once asked for them back in 2000 but water only lapped at the doorstep, since then we have built a large extension and made sure it was a good foot above previous levels, so I know we are OK for now.

Doncaster had all the prisoners filling sand bags - ist not just as easy as getting them though, they are very heavy!
