    Some advice please :)

Both my brand new climbing zephirine drouhin have got powdery mildew :((I'm dead upset).

I am spraying with Roseclear, as recommended, but do I have to prune out all the affected leaves etc? (it would not leave me with very much!)

    Thank you :gnthb:

Hi Hetty This is only what I would try first ,you know me I just love roses ,before I resorted to removing any parts of the Rose:)You are doing the right thing don,t worry it will be OK.

Rose powdery mildew is a fungus that produces airborne spores from infected stems or buds on roses. After overwintering on your plants, the disease is most likely to flare up if the roots are in dry soil and the leaves are in humid air - conditions that are often found when plants are grown near or against a wall.

    ALERNATIVE ORGANIC SPRAYING

There are a number of kitchen ingredients that work well on powdery mildew.
    1. At the first sign of mildew you can mix 1 part of milk with 2 parts of water and apply this solution to the plant. This mix stops mildew clinging to the plant leaves and can therefore also be used successfully as a preventative measure.

2.Apple cider vinegar, mixed with water, forms an effective barrier to powdery mildew, which also works well at removing black spots on roses. Add 3 tablespoons of the vinegar to 1 gallon of water and spray liberally over the affected area.

3.Chives can also be used to help minimise the spread of powdery mildew. Chop a good-sized bunch of the herb and place in a heatproof glass container. Top with boiling water and allow to cool before straining. The solution can then be used to coat the affected foliage.

Thank you very much WOO :luv:

I did look at the link before I asked, but I looked around on the net too and some said to chop the rose, some not to so I was confused and wanted to check.

I will continue spraying and also try the remedies you have suggested..luckily I bought a pot of chives just the other day!

God bless, and thank you again. :gnthb:

Hi, please excuse me butting in Mr (Mrs? :lollol:) Woo!

This solution removes black spot?! I would be so happy if it works on mine because Ive been plagued with it and Im not at all keen on spraying anything in the garden.

Ive just been removing affected leaves and upping the garden hygiene.

Would raspberry vinegar work just as well? Ive got lots of it. Im assuming its the weak acid in the vinegar rather than anything in the cider that has the active ingredient?

Can I just ask, how often should I be spraying with the alternative organic methods? I know the roseclear is every fortnight, but not sure about this.

    Thank you!

Hi Hetty I do apologise I should have explained myself better,I would, just continue to use the Roseclear ,These are just methods that i use instead of Spraying with chemicals,so wait and see for the Roseclear results before you proceed with the Organic treatmeant:):thmb:

    Thanks again WOO :gnthb:

Just out of interest, how long would you persevere with the Roseclear before you decided it wasn't going to work?

Well I went out spraying raspberry vinegar solution early this morning! :D
My fingers smelled interesting and the nail varnish also survived.

So its a win so far! I'll let you know any results.
