    Hello
I planted two Hebe's around 4 years ago. All I ever get on one of them is about 4 white flowers, the other has never flowered. Should I be feeding them something?

Light duration is one of the needs of plants to produce flowers. So if a plant is in shade, it does not get the amount reqiured.
Another is potassium, they need a certain amount of this nutrient to also initiate flower buds.
    Are the plants lacking either?

Now this is interesting. I have a pink Hebe which has done nothing here and pete suggested perhaps it was not the plant for my conditions.

However, in this month's magazine I buy it suggests that Hebes are exactly the shrub for here to grow under conifers and other shade trees, saying they grow in poorish soil in sun or partial shade. It also says cut back to the main stem to give a good flush of new leaves and flowers in the Autumn. If the plant is older, cut in two or three sessions.

Admittedly, they may need a little shade here in comparison with the UK. :D

My hebes have flowered all year round, so I guess I'm just lucky, I've never done anything special.

I planted 5 in a circular raised bed in Australia and they had sun most of the day. Grew beautifully but never flowered as much as I expected. They were surrounding a weeping willow though so now I wonder if maybe the tree roots were somehow to blame.

    Hi T&O,

Apparently willows need a lot of water so maybe they have been sucking it all up to the detrement of your Hebe's :(

    Yep,

I think you are probably right. With the water restrictions the willow probably grabbed most of the water and the hebe's didn't get enough to convert their energy into flowering.

I was going through a homesick phase and my British country cottage garden look didn't work well with the drought!

    Hi to you all,

My Hebe is a Hebe 'Amy', I have also bought a Hebe Heartbreaker. It really is quite splendid. Apparently it is a relatively new Hebe. You can see it on the j.parker dutch bulbs website. They are offering it free with all orders at the moment and have some very interesting special offers aswell.

    :D

We don't have a water restriction down here thank goodness, but we still use it wisely - i find water retaining granules can be quite good.

Last year pretty much everything out front died, i spent loads on it and trudged back and forth with the w.can but it was a disaster.

I still ignore the front, except for the Wisteria :D thats lovely.

Out back is huge and sunny so i can experiment on there.

Photo's of my resited hebe to follow [IMG]
