Gorgeous Walnut [IMG] My two plants are just starting to bud, usually about August when I see my flowers. Saw two blooms last year then went on holiday and missed the rest.

I don`t live a great many miles from you and mine are a good 6 weeks behind yours [IMG]

Fed,watered and in a sunny spot, must be later blooming species - if there is such a thing.

I have 3 hibiscus outside. Are there different kinds? I've seen some indoors in supermarket cafes etc, but mine have far tougher leaves etc.

Yours is a beauty Walnut. I have one gorgeous deep pink one (about 7" high now, and a lilac double - both inherited with the garden (I pruned the lilac one in the early spring, as it was outgrowing it's space. Will be interesting to see if it's forgiven me, as it's usually a prolific flowerer). I also have a lovely cream and raspberry one, which an old friend gave me. They always come into leaf late, and are no where near flowering - infact i doubt if there are even any buds yet!

Hi, AndyK! So yours is doing the same as mine. I think I put the pics up for you in your thread. My peach one was double last year, started off as double this year then changed its mind and became single!

Pip yours is probably a different species than mine in temperate zones, probably the most commonly grown ornamental species is Hibiscus syriacus, the common garden Hibiscus, also known in some areas as the "Rose of Althea" or "Rose of Sharon" (but not to be confused with the unrelated Hypericum calycinum, also called "Rose of Sharon"). In tropical and subtropical areas, the Chinese hibiscus (H. rosa-sinensis), with its many showy hybrids, is the most popular hibiscus, this one I have would not overwinter outside because it has been in the g/house it flowers early.
    About 200-220 species are known

I know that this hibiscus is tatty-looking but it was the only one left that was still half-way decent.

The reason it caught my eye was that the red and white petals were seperate - the colours didn't run into each other in one petal. I can't remember ever seeing a hibiscus like this - has anyone else?

That is lovely, Sis ... no, I've certainly not seen one but wouldn't mind having one .....

Going back to something that Catt mentioned a long, long time ago ....

By the way, I've moved this thread, an old one, into Tropical Gardening for continuity where the other Hibiscus threads are .... :thumb:

Too late to take a clipping for you, Sis, sorry.

As to the Thevetia - we saw plenty of them, both as small trees and others obviously trimmed to be kept as shrubs. But they all seemed to be the same colour as you already have. So you are out of luck there too, about gettings seeds from other coloured ones.

Have my fingers crossed for you too, Walnut. When they bloom, be sure to take some pics for us to see, the name alone sounds gorgeous.
