Having rescued some Fuchsia plug plants from a local chain-store and putting them into intensive care for several days it looks like three plants of the variety "Southgate" will be growing in my hanging baskets this summer. I have never grown this variety before (I usually stick to the prolific and attractive "La Campanella")so I wondered if anybody else had grown it and how it performed. Or does anybody have a favourite trailing fuchsia which they would like to recommend?
Also, although I tried to grow a standard Fuchsia many years ago, I haven't attempted this recently and hope that somebody might recommend a variety that is particularly suitable for this purpose. I might have another "bash" this year!

This was my standard in here 2yr last year called Charming by name and charming she was sadly I think I may have lost her as all the growth seems to be coming from below and not here head.

This year I got new fuchsias from Dobbies and have to say quality was 1st class.
One I am growing is called Blaze Away a new one to me but I am trying to grow here in to a mini standard length of stem for this must no tbe less than 6inches or more than 10inches .

I shall grow her ten inches then grow 5 more pairs of leaves before I pinch here out.

Alway look for a fuchsia sthat has three leaves at the top these are the best for growing a standard.

This is my challenge this year growing Blaze Away shall take a photo in day light and then at different stages for you to see.

I should have been at my fuchsia club meeting tonight but such a misserable night outside have not gone.

I had Southgate a few years ago and remember fondly how beautiful she was .

Have you ever grown a multi basket or pot of fuchsias all the same variety an amazing show of fuchsias you will get.

I have tendency has grown to single fuchsias more than double now as double are so heavy and can get broken with the winds we can get.

Singles so delicate.I like this thread shall be back in and out of the season.

Thanks for these replies. I grew Annabel some years back and recall that she was an attractive girl. Swing Time is a nice variety also..somewhat similar to Annabel I seem to remember?
The pictures of standards are lovely. My attempt at growing a standard in the past was not as succesful as yours Scotkat; I must consult my fuchsia book for instructions. As for the Show entry..well, I'd like to see the one that DID win!!

Swingtime is a delightful red and white double fuchsia everyones favourite makes a nice basket.

With 5 fuchsias in your basket or try growing on amulti basket more than 5 from tip cuttings and as they grow their roots out from pot time to repot untill the size of the basket.

Another way just put the tips in the basket or hanging pot an djust let them grow then you wont have root disturbance when you pot up.

Annabell another nice double but nothing like swingtime a near white with a hint of pink, you can see them on this link.

I have tried to grow white fuchsias but not easy if I remember I was told white like shade this helps them to stay white.
