I have just inherited an anthureum which nobody in the office was able to keep alive. It is just about hanging on, but I'm not sure if it is too wet or too dry, I suspect it has been both waterlogged and dry over the last year. I'll take it home, remove most of the soil and replant it. Has anybody any other advice I can use please.
hi there Anthuriums prefer a growing media that is coarse and well drained. Soil should be settled firmly around the roots and the root system should fill the pot before the plant is stepped up to a larger pot size. well Anthuriums are able to handle dryness around the root ballbut they do need to be watered thoroughly and allowed to dry slightly before watering again. out will. Drying out can also cause the tip to burn and root damage so this may be whats happened to your ANthuriums, and if you over water this can lead to root damage and sudden yellowing of the leaves. Anthuriums will like alot of light but not direct sun light. hope this helps
Rich, is the anthurium (I presume it is andreanum, the smaller one) leaning over, they are prone to as the crown grows out of the pot in time exposing some of the roots which naturally grow above the soil. If the plant is leaning a couple of small split canes would support it. Davy has given you sound cultural advice. It is quite a tough plant and will tolerate neglect up to a point.
