Hi all, my lawn is practically covered in all sorts of weeds, I'm not much of a gardener but really need to get it into shape, I would like to use a liquid lawn weed and feed and have been looking at Verdone extra, any advice would be gratefully received, also I see it is expensive and can come in concentrate or dilute form, can I buy it in larger quantities and save money, if so where could I get it from, the most I've seen on the internet so far is 3 litres diluted at £10:99, I would like to buy around 5 litres concentrated and hopefully save some money, I have a large garden.

You need to know the total area of your lawn to work out how much you need.
Is your lawn very big? I never buy "bulk" quantities as with the size of my lawn it isn't worth it.
I wouldn't recommend treating it more than two or three times a year. Lawns tend to take a while to recover after any treatment and too much is far worse than too little.

Wilkinsons do an effective "three in one" liquid (I won't use granular treatment as I always manage to burn parts of the lawn). I always look at the contents breakdown on any chemicals, comparing "own brand" and "proprietary." There's often little difference except in the price.

I have quite a large lawn area and used to use the granules. ( I don't now as I have snowdrops in the lawn) If you use granules DO get the plastic spreader don't just spread them by hand as it will burn the grass. The granules do a good job if you use the spreader. I wouldn't tend to do it now as it's a bit late in the season. It is very dry and you would get scorching now unless you sprinkle the lawn every other day

    Hi Doghouse,

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, never received an email into my private email box and have been busy of late, anyway, I did use granular weed and feed and never really liked it, I have recently bought liquid Verdone extra concentrate, according to the bottle you only have to use it once a year, which seems ideal to me, that is, if its right what it says, however it recommends 15mls to 5 litres of water when using a watering can with a fine spray and only 15mls to 1 litre of water when using a pressure spray, would you happen to know if I can put 5 litres of water into the pressure spray and then add 75mls of verdone concentrate or would this cause problems for my lawn?? I don't understand why only 15mls in 1 litre for the pressure spray, does anyone out there know why?? 1 litre does not last very long in a pressurised bottle, nor does the pressure.

I think it's because of the pressure and the spread of the spray as opposed to a watering can which just pours it.. Rule of thumb always follow the manufacturers instructions when using these things unless you have vast experience. It has been tested so...............:)
