Our Co-op has hippies or whatever you like to call them 2 for the price of on so at £3.99 you can get two big bulbs.

I have enough already, but could not resist temptation and bulbs were so big I am going back for two more tomorrow!

A friend has just given me a Red Lion she bought yesterday at the Eden Project. It is in kit form, a large bulb with a small amount of compost in a plastic bag and a square plaster container - but the container does not have any drainage holes. That can't be right can it? I have an orance one in an ordinary pot that I've kept going for 3 years now and I would think that the soil would get very sour without drainage holes. The shape of the container is such that none of my plant pots will fit in it. What do you think?

You are right Blackthorn. Biggest problem I have had with them is that they rot, however some people grow them in water BUT then throw away the bulbs - what a waste!

Make sure there is good drainage both in the pot and directly under the buln, don't over water, very little required until they start to move AND they hate being disturbed, so don't be tempted to keep re potting.

Thanks for that Waco - I thought it couldn't be right, I will pot it up as usual then. Fancy the Eden Project selling them this way, not good!

from a catalogue, not sure which though, its very similar to one called "papillon" which I have but never got to fower - I live in hope!

Could have been Parker bulbs - it is very classy, bu I still love the OTT ones, I used to vind them so vulgar, how ones tastes change!

well pianist turned up to play for us on friday, say above mentioned hippy and exclaimed "Chico" well have to say I was quite shocked as its not so common, but she was bought one for christmas.

went into back bedroom and all the hippies are just starting to shoot, have to admit I forgot they were even there!

I love them all great and small - oh how common can you get?
