From the leaf, or the few intact ones there are, a very unhappy lupin. Something is stunting this plant's growth. :D
It is a Thermopsis, but which one is hard to tell, the only difference between the ones in cultivation is the way they grow. One is a root spreading thug and the other is a nice clump forming one which seeds around if you allow it too. [ 14. May 2006, 10:38 AM: Message edited by: Palustris ]
I don't think it's a lupin, a few snails have been at the leaves but not that badly. It does look like that even at its best. My father in law got it a few years ago from what he said was a rare plant nursery so it could well be a Thermiopsis because I can't find any info about those on the net! Thanks for your help. Fiwi

It looks alot like a helleborus rose or christmas rose as it was labelled when i bought it from someones front garden table sale two years ago. Mine has flowered for the first time this year and it has lovely pink tinges in it. My leaves are alot darker than that but i have just brought a leaf in and they are the same shape. Sorry if im wrong, but if i am poor plant as i have been telling it that its a rose for the last two years and it will be very confused, more so as the book says it should have finished flowering in March and it is still going strong. PS just checked in the book and there is a yellow one in flower now.
