Easy But Beautiful

im jack and a relativly new gardener. i enjoy houseplants because of yearly wonder- i have 2 orchids about to flower and find nothing more satisfying then watching a seedling develop.(didnt grow the orchids) but if anybody knows any easy to grow plants for this time of year indoors then reply as soon as posible; im waiting for spring and its taking months...sorrycouldent resist. i have a heated propagator if thats any help

Welcome to GC Jack - I have some indoor flowering hyacinths which always cheer me up this time of year. I potted them up on 1st September and was hoping they would flower for Christmas but they hung on until New Year. Well worth waiting for though.

 

Hi Jack, I used to always be raring to go at this time of the year, its a new year and you want to make a start.
But over the years, I have found that its better to wait, at least until the end of jan, better the end of feb before making a start.
The light levels are better then, and without good light it all gets long and leggy.
Basicly, I'd wait, but what about mustard and cress, you could get a sandwich out of it.

 

thanks a lot. yeah i palnted some hyacinths and the flowered on boxing day and have and today my orchid flowered.

 

hi - just joined and saw your post.As already advised wait a few weeks before trying any seed sowing you will benfit. Trust me, I grow thousands of plants in spring every year and I sometimes try to sow early to my cost. Yes we all have itchy fingers this time of year but be patient. If you are desparate you could put Eucalyptus Globulus or Gunii in the next week or two (as you have a propagator) they would make a fine addition to a mixed foliage container.
