Right, well I planted some sweet pea seeds (old fashioned variety for organic catalogue) and they grew fine

I planted them out and pinched out the shoot after 3/4 pairs of leaves to make them bushier (and cos someone said the main shoot doesn't always flower)

do i do anything else to them apart from remove tendrils and ensure they're tied to the stakes?

I didn't know about pinching out - all I know is to keep them well watered.

Mine had a growthe spurt and have slowed down now.

Regular dilute liquid fertilizer and mulching.
Pick the flowers and don't let them go to seed,
this will prolong the flowering season

    Hello.
I agree with the other replies and would add that it is best to use about three different types of liquid feed to make sure plants get a good and varied diet. Unless you are going to show these blooms you could leave tendrils on plants. Best wishes, Gerald.

My sweet peas are growing really well. I planted them from seed staright into a large pot and have a cane & string wigwam for them to grow up.

As they're growing now they're quite crowded and I was wandering if it would be better to thin them out a bit?

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Feline
I grow them every in the garden where they can climb.
Around the base of my cherry tree are several that come up each year.
I wrap chicken wire around the trunk and they grow through it. When they get a bit crowded and hang away I tie the whole lot in with spiral stringing.
    Hope to post pics soon

So are mine, amongst other climbers on a Clematis type trellis....on another wall I grow the Everlasting Sweetpeas, come back every year.I had the deep purple for some years, but got 3 more colours, just cut to ground in Autumn and come up double following year. Not scented, but a lovely show all Summer, much longer lasting then the Annual, go on till frost and great seed pods to safe seeds. .

Picked my first flowers yesterday. The scent in the house is lovely!

Need to pick some more now - only problem is we're decorating and all the vases are packed away in boxes!!

Has anyone else tried those root trainer flower pots.

Brilliant for starting sweet pea seeds.

aqua take the seeds off them and increase your own for next year...let them dry and swell on the plants and pick on a dry sunny midday...it they are damp, they may go mouldy in storage later. I leave mine in a paperbag in a sunny spot long after, before I open the pods, sometimes not till when I want to sow them again in March.
