Just a thought - maybe a section on "what to so this month" in the garden - i.e. planting bulbs, pruning various plants/shrubs (and how to do it correctly!!).

When to dig, and when this is not such a good idea
    (new bulbs coming through etc).

How to stop some plants "taking over" and/or encouraging others to "bush out" etc.

As a pensioner I have been a amatuer gardener for many years, but still admit to not knowing everything - and always grateful for tips and hints.

    Carole,

A brilliant idea, but, I will increase the number of forums when the traffic increases, because if there are a lot of forums with nothing in (as For sale and Wanted are at the moment), people are put-off from joining.

I was advised to only put 2 or 3 forums in to start, but, I thought that was too few ;) !

Thanks for your input, and keep it coming, as I won't know what to change/add without it.

    Nathan.

I agree with Carole. What to do when would be fantastic, especially regarding pruning. The only pruning date I can remember is that you should prune your roses on the day of the Grand National. Being a horsey person, thats easy for me to remember, but I'm sure I've lost things in the past because I've pruned them at the wrong time. Clematis also is a problem. I know that there are two types that require different methods of pruning, but how to remember which is which?

I don't want to confuse you even more but there are 3 types of clematis one of which dosen't have to be pruned (until it's taken over your garden but it nearly bled or perhaps that should be sapped to death because I pruned it at the wrong time.
Thing is prunning times are very rough late flowering clematis is supposed to be done before growth starts but mine had started in January this year.

I think I remember 'uncle Allan' saying once that the later they flower, the harder you can cut them back, for gods sake someone correct me if im wrong!!! by the way while im on the subject, my clematis montana is just budding back up again, I didnt cut it back last year, because it had grown so well up my wall, but one of my old dears said that I should wait for it to finish flowering then cut it back.!

do not cut back montana until it has finished flowering. I am a mad woman with secateurs, my plants flinch when I walk past LOL - but I know what I am doing and when to do it. If I get stuck I ask a local nursery owner.

Nathan - a UK gardening To Do List, I have for every month of the year if it would help. I created it for a now closed UKGarden forum and still provide it to a non uk forum so could e-mail it to you so you could see if it was appropriate for this forum.

E-mail me and i will send Aprils for your consideration.

I am eating my last easter egg, and have a large glass of red wine - evenings can be such heaven. Glorious day today, checking clematis, they are growing rapidy. Armandii and Cirrhosa are flowering, some others are budding up. Who has a favourite clematis, do tell which and why

Black Prince. For the flower colour & form.
    Rouge Cardinal for it's voluptuousness.
General Sikorski for personal reasons ;)
    Armandii for its easiness!
