Mr Kandy as some of you will know has been building a conservatory for us [IMG]

He has fitted some sockets in there and has got wiring coming from the lounge through to the sockets. Now the only problem is that we need some ideas if possible on how we can disguise these cabels. [IMG]

Mr Kandy wants to hide them by building a seat on this side of the consevatory and also the other side, but I don't really want the brick work covering up as those little skirts of brickwork are part of the design of the house, and in any case we will be hopefully buying some proper seating for in there and I can't see us using any seats he makes as they will be behind the doors as they open and besides they won't be seats that will be comfortable. :(

I have put up a couple of photos so that you can see our problem and if anyone can suggest something that would look nice to hide them then we would be most greatful...Thanks [IMG]

This is the brickwork style that is part of the design of the house...

And this is the wiring that needs to be disguised somehow...

Hi Kandy, it is small enough to be hidden by a small plant in a container screwed to the wall!

Unfortunately he has not run the cables thro' conduits which could have looked a lot neater, but quite easily hidden if a plant is acceptable in this position.

Also if the plant is moved, it will be quite obvious what it is, but if it was concealed too well, it could be a future danger to somebody working in that area.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Dag, Mr Kandy had intended in making a seat of the whole of that part of the brickwork so the cables would have been put inside conduit so they wouldn't be seen but I never realised that was what he intended doing until I asked him why the cables had been left like that

I asked him about the container but he thinks it might look a bit silly. In the end I expect he will get his way,he usually does it is just that I can't see the point in having wooden seats built if we are going to buy furniture to sit on anyway.

Thankyou for your help.It has at least given us something to think about. [IMG]

I'm sure the electrical experts will be along later Kandy.
I tend to think that exposed cables like that are not really allowed these days. [IMG]

Pete, this conservatory has been four years in the making and one thing I do know is that Mr Kandy will make sure that everything is just right. He has already ripped out one internal manhole because he wasn't happy with it so he will make sure there are no cables showing :D

Hi Kandy, Chase out a channel in the mortar and push in the cables. Get some metal cable sheaths, trim them to fit over the cables, then remortar over the lot.

If you don't want to do that make a wooden frame, box it in and use the shelf for plants.

Hi Pal and Roders, sounds a good idea to Mr Kandy. He like you thinks it can be done,we just need to make sure we use some of the pink mortar so that it all blends in. [IMG]

Celia, good idea, like Dags so we have that as an option if this doesn't work out. [IMG]

Thankyou all for your suggestions and will keep you posted on the progress. The end hopefully is in sight, well Easter with a bit of luck [IMG] [IMG]

didn't mean to be negative Kandy, its just that electric cables these days seem to be a minefield of regulation. [IMG]

That's better! ;) It's too small to fit a proper sheath so lay a detectable metal wire and point over the lot.
