well i can put my little in put in this subject, I like rats but like whileys pet ones, I dont like wild ones we are over run with them, as we speak they are under us in the drain systems, hundreds of them, we dont see them but there their.
When i have been to my local nature reserve they are in the drains i have seen those and believe me they are some size bigger than whileys, I tried to take a pic of them but they are too fast.
Like everything else numbers have to be decreased as we would be over run with them, same with rabbits that is a whole new topic

Will some of you please not patronise me?

I clearly stated that i am well aware that this is a gardening forum, and i understand that there are going to be images and chats of this nature. I also am very much aware that this is a wild rat, and may be responsible for diseases, i know they don't spread sunshine for goodness sake. I even gave advice on how to kill them a little more humanely!

All i was asking is could we give a little prewarning to those who are sensative when posting images of dead animals.

If a bloke didn't want his dog because it was shredding the sofa and nearly bit the kid, its an unwanted animal, like this rat.
So if he chucks the dog out into the country to fend for itself, it then gets run over by a car, do you go up to it and take a photo, then post it on a community forum about cars and make a thread "look what i found today..." ... so what vehicle do you think took the thing out?"

I'd hope you'd at lest mention it in the thread title, in case someone feels for the dog. Wether or not you dont like the animal in my opinion isn't applicable. Its courtesy to at least put it in the thread title to warn people.

Like you say, and before you said i had already mentioned, if you dont like the thread you dont go there, but the first notification i saw of it being dead rat related was when it hit me in the face. Thats all i'm asking.

I'm more annoyed now by the response to my reply than the innitial reason, do you people really think i was waving a white flag crying 'save the fluffy ratties??' Give me a break.

I'd also just like to add that i only show my inages of my rats in Wakey Wakey as they're precious to me, and i've never had anyone ask me not to, in fact its genally a good response, though i would never have posted them if i thought a Wakey Wakey reader would find it uncomfortable, i will not longer do it, though i wish you would havejust PMed me! I am face to face with people that don't like the work i do every day, i DO understand! I work day in and day out running therapy groups for those wishing to get over fears, and also rescueing rats with the RSPCA who have been badly treated.

Just because i like the domesticated version of the animals some don't like doesn't make me insane, and i'd hope i'm still approachable through it all!

quite agree with woo, I,m not a lover of spiders and snakes its just i have a fear of them and certain people feel the same way about rats, doesnt say we want to harm them in anyway personally ourselves.kandy may have shown this image but she didnt say she had harmed it.
I have met people that are terrified and dont like dogs, I used to be terrified of cats but it was only i had a bad experience years ago, have got over my fear.
whiley this is not a personal thing against you with you having rats, but every discussion on gc about animals we will find one person that feels very strongly about a certain subject that is put up and i,m afraid we have to try and accept everyones views of likes and dislikes as iff we were all the same it would be quite a boring world.

Whiley, this is a very difficult subject as you say, when it come to wild rats...

Nature can be very cruel in herself & we as humans, can be very cruel... Unfortunately sometime we need to control pests. (Which we all know wild rats are)..

Kandy you are a cat lover, as many of us are....
If you have a dog, like I do, you are a dog lover....
Whiley you are a pet rat lover...
We all try to respect these facts in our threads.

I think we all admire Whiley for her constant daily battle with life. Yet how caring, cheerful & busy she tries to keep. We all also know Kandy is of the same nature.. ;) [IMG]

marley, in defence of kandy i,m sure she didnt do this deliberately to hurt anyone, we all can put things up not thinking, after all she did want to know how it died, and it was a wild rat not a pet.
I think like other posts this one also should be ended before anymore upset occurs within this thread

I just want to enfirm once more because it doesn't seem to have been taken on board...

I'm not defending wild rats! I'm well aware Kandy didn't do anything deliberately, what would she gain from that? And its not in her nature!

I can't believe how utterly misunderstood i have been on this thread.

In my first post i replied to her question on how she thinks it was killed, then i made suggestion son how to kill them, i know they're a pest can cause diseases and destruction and i know they're different to pet rats. I've been working and studying rodents both domestic and wild for 11 years now, i think i might have grasped the difference.

All i was asking innitially was, as i have asked several times over, was that i dont personally enjoy seeing dead animals, please can it be indicated in titles from now on. And then suddenly i was being patronized, and then i defended myself.

I agree Marley, NOW there is nothing more to say.
