I 'think' its a Cordyline Australis we have (we actually have two either side of our front door) but the one pictured seems to have gone a bit limp recently. Can anyone tell me if I'm doing anything wrong or if indeed it looks like I need to help it.

The porch is sheltered so I water it about once a week and I have given it plant food. It survived the harsh winter where it was but in the past couple of weeks some of the leaves have wilted and are now touching the floor (see photo). Is this just because new leaves are sprouting?

Also, the leaves are scorched at the ends - I think this normal (or is it?). Do I just get the scissors and trim the ends?

    Advice appreciated.

    Thanks, Floyd

Its a cordyline but one of the coloured leaf varieties that tend not to be quite as hardy as the green ones.

I have a feeling it might be rotting in the centre.

Oh dear. Would that be through overwatering? It hasn't seen rainfall...

It might be winter damage, frost etc.

See if the leaves pull away easily.

Thanks, Pete. I have tried pulling themn away - they seems OK and they don't seem discoloured but its odd becuause its 'brother' across the step seems more 'perky'. should I remove the bottom leaves that are dropping or only if they are loose? really want to save it as it cost me £30

No just leave it and see what happens, it could well be OK and just needs a bit of warmth to get going
