We`ve had a very sad incident here in Penzance this week . A young man in his twenties slashed his throat with a knife in Woolworths store , sadly the man died . I had been in the store five minutes earlier with my elderly mother . What a terrible thing to happen and how awful for the staff and customers . Understandably the store has been closed since . He must have been a very troubled young man , i just think its somebody`s son and there but for the grace of god go i .

That is very sad. I heard about that on the radio yesterday. He must have been very depressed. I feel really sorry for everyone that witnessed such an act.

What a very tragic end to what should have been a promising life. There is so much pressure on younger ones especially, today.

In this troubled world we live in more and more people, young and old are desperate for help. The numbers of people diagnosed with depression is rising at an alarming rate with a chronic lack of help offered to those in need.

There is a terrible stigma attached to mental health issues and sufferers often feel trapped, with nowhere to turn.

As DQ said, i also feel as amother that there but for the grace of God go i.

All too much emphasis is put on the 'trouble' youngsters cause in these troubled times, perhaps if they had more support and encouragement from family and friends they would at least see a light shining in the darkness. With chronic unemployement, recreational drug use and nowhere to channel their creativity and develop a zest for life, all too many of these youngsters face what they may see as ableak future.

My thoughts are with this lads family and also in reflection as to the difficulties our youth face today

I agree with you Paula I am a great believer in talking about ones problems as you might all know now..... if not see below link

    My bad day

As a mother of two boys I have made sure that they can 'talk to me' about anything, the things Dan (my eldest) tells me does sometimes make my toes curl but at least he feels comfortable talking about them and that's what it's all about.

Harry my youngest is kinda shy but he still is able to talk when something is on his mind it just takes an awful lot longer than Dan!

It's important that parents are 'there' for their children and it makes my heart break knowing that not all children whether young or old don't always get that comfort they need at their worst time.

My heart goes out to the young man's parents and friends I couldn't nor would want to go through the pain of that kinda loss.

how sad to hear this. it is true that these days people of all ages find it hard to cope. without getting too involved, i suffer from depression - no idea why really! and i will say, & i hope you will not take this badly, that i am glad i am as old as i am (not a pensioner yet), and not a young kid. although i know that if you're born in a cetain age you don't the difference. it's like deprivation - you can't deprive someone of something they've never had. but these days everybody expects eveything. it's not 'them' being bad, it's society i think. i don't watch the news or read papers except at the w/end cos i find it too depressing.
my son, in the south, has witnessed a fatal stabbing.
how bad are things. do you know what has done me a power of good? being on here.
i know it's no good forcing people to do things, just keep on & maybe like me they will find something they like. something they never imagined.
i feel for that young man & any family he may have had. lets hope that this sort of thing soon stops & it is not 'just the way things are'.
    thinking of him.

    Hiya Helen,

As you say, it is VERY important that children can have a frank and honest relationship with teir parents. My lad also makes my toes curl but id rather have curly toes than a withdrawn and troubled child same as you :D

well said paula,im sorry for going off topic a bit and i feel sorry for the boys family, but i also feel it for the people who wittnesed it, my sister was in a packed bingo hall when a man walked in and stabbed his wife and mother inlaw to death, leaving his little girl without a mam dad or gran, and the people who wittnesed it needed counceling for years. so im thinking of all those people in that store on that day, not of the young man im afraid, sorry if that sounds hard.

excuse me everyone, but you are all sorry for the people who witnessed this incident, you are all sorry for the guy who chose to end his own life, but what about the victims? The poor women this guy threatened with the knife? Last Monday here in South Wales, 5 people died in a head-on crash. three young men between 18 and 26 years old and a 69 year old man and his 70 year old wife. The couple were returning home after a holiday in Ireland, the 3 men plus 1 other 18 year old man ( who is recovering in hospital ) were driving an alleged stolen car at speed the wrong way up the M4 and rammed into the couples car killing all 5, but as far as I am concerned there were only 2 victims here the other 3 got their just rewards and the fourth one should be tried for murder. David.

Too much emphasis is placed on the poor disadvataged criminal and not on the the real victim. On the news today a 75 year old woman is not just burgled but is beaten to a pulp as well and she has her car stolen which is later found burnt out. David.
